“The Maya Train, one of the largest projects already approved by the incoming government of Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, seeks to detonate the development of the Mexican southeast, and will allow a growth of international tourism, especially European, in the state of Campeche”, declared the Minister of Tourism of the state, Jorge Manos Esparragoza.
The state official said that with this route, which will connect the states of Tabasco, Campeche, Chiapas, Yucatan and Quintana Roo, will benefit various sectors, impact on the issue of groceries and the food industry, also it will expand the demand for the sale of handicrafts.
For the realization of this project, between 120 and 150 billion pesos will be invested, according to the announcement, and will unify the cultural and tourist wealth of the Yucatan Peninsula.
This train represents an opportunity to redistribute travelers throughout the region, the state of Campeche would be favored in the expansion of its tourist market, because currently 66 percent of travelers who come to the entity is national.
Manos Esparragoza considered this work necessary to improve its connectivity, since the current International Airport of Mexico City is overrun, and this is its main tourist entry, so the train would drive a growth with a greater flow of visitors.
He added that the tourism products offered by Campeche will be improved to receive a greater number of people. Each of the states involved will devote a special attention to the sectors in question with the purpose of encouraging greater dynamism.
In the case of Campeche, the opportunities that the project represents in tourism will be taken and they will work to position themselves as one of the best destinations for vacationing.
During the last three years, the state has made different strategies to encourage the arrival of tourists to its emblematic archaeological and cultural points.
Visits to archaeological sites increased 13.3 percent; the museums, 17.5 percent, and the visits to Calakmul grew 26 percent.
The new tourism products include Hanal Pixán, Pirata Fest, the Sport Fishing Tournaments and the Aviturismo Festivals, which have been well accepted by the public.
