Passengers on VivaAerobus flight 4280, from Monterrey, reported that due to the presence of dogs on the runways of the Mérida International Airport, the aircraft’s captain decided to divert the flight to Cancun to refuel.
At the airline counter, they stated that they were unaware of the reasons why the aircraft could not land, which generated a certain amount of mistrust among the people who come to the air terminal, either to look for clients to take them to their hotels or to receive to family or friends.
Sara Flores, a young woman from Monterrey, explained that according to information from the aircraft crew, there were dogs on the runway and personnel from the control tower asked to make a lap of no more than 10 minutes.
However, after waiting 10 minutes, the captain of the aircraft noticed that there was little fuel, which is why he decided to go to an alternate airport, in this case Cancun, where they arrived at 9:30 a.m. and then After refueling, they returned to the Mérida airport shortly before 11:00 a.m.
The same version was given by other passengers who arrived on the same flight, who stated that everything was fine and some jokingly commented that it was worth it, because they were able to see Puerto Cancun from the air, said Selene Martínez.
