In that sense, starting December 1 you will be able to travel from Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) to one of the fashionable and most sought-after places in the Riviera Maya: Tulum.

And for the second fortnight you can take a train from Palenque, Chiapas, to Cancún, Quintana Roo. We give you all the details of the openings scheduled for the last month of the year.

Mayan Train, Tulum Airport and Mexicana: these are their release dates

Tulum International Airport

In chronological order we will start with the Tulum International Airport, whose inauguration is scheduled for December 1.

On October 2, President López Obrador revealed that that day the new Felipe Carrillo Puerto Tulum International Airport in Quintana Roo will be inaugurated.

“I take this opportunity to say once and for all that on December 1 we are going to inaugurate the new Tulum airport, built by military engineers,” the head of the Executive announced.

There is so much expectation that even US airlines, such as Spirit and American Airlines, have expressed interest in having flights from the new air terminal.

Just last August, Aeroméxico announced that it will offer 14 weekly flights to said complex in the southeast from the Mexico City International Airport (AICM). In addition, Viva Aerobus also plans to offer flights starting December 1 to Tulum from AIFA.

Mexicana de Aviation

In second place is the new airline of the Mexican State of Aviation, which will also ‘take off’ at the end of the year.

The Government of Mexico formalized the purchase of Mexicana de Aviación.

On July 10, 2023, President AMLO detailed that said company will begin operations on December 1. However, just a few days ago the digital site was enabled to book flights on the airline, whose availability is from Saturday, December 2.

Eye! According to the airline’s website, Mexicana will fly to 20 destinations, of which, at the moment, Tulum, where a new airport is being built, is not included.

Mexicana de Aviación will have its base of operations in AIFA and Tulum.

Mayan Train

Last, but not least, is the Mayan Train. This Friday it was announced that the inauguration of the first section that will go from Palenque to Cancún is expected on December 15.

The Mayan Train is one of the most emblematic works of the Obrador Government.

“We plan to inaugurate the train from Palenque to Cancun on December 15, that is the plan. There are some challenges,” the federal president announced.

This mega-work is one of the most emblematic of the Obrador government. It will travel 1,545 kilometers; It will connect the states of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo. It will have three types of trains:

Mayan Train will be fully inaugurated in 2024

The Chief Executive clarified this Friday that section 5 of the Mayan Train will remain pending.

However, considering the work of the companies, President López Obrador believes that “at the end of January we will be able to open the Cancún-Tulum section of the train; the airport will already be there. And by February at the latest we have everything, the 1 1,545 kilometers,” he said.
