Kinchil, Yucatan (July 12, 2021).- A family of tourists from Mexico City had the scare of their lives when they capsized coming back to Merida from the port of Celestún.
The accident occurred at kilometer 50 when the driver of the Mitsubishi Mirage car “pinched” the edge of the asphalt tape and lost control of the steering wheel.
At least four of the passengers traveling aboard the rental vehicle were injured, including an older adult who took the worst of it when she was trapped inside the compact and had to be rescued by firefighters and paramedics from the Ministry of Public Security.
The Mirage tumbled several times until it was tipped onto its left side. The other three passengers, including a minor, ended up hurt but not seriously.
The tourists from Mexico City finished their tour along the Yucatan coast at the hospital for a better medical evaluation, while the insurer would take over the car, which ended as a total loss.
