Aeronautical authorities and the general administration of the Mérida “Manuel Crescencio Rejón” International Airport are awaiting the request of the airline that will operate the new Mérida-Guatemala route, scheduled to start in March of this year, and which will increase the arrival of international passengers to the entity.
As is known, the TAG Airlines company announced that from the first quarter of 2022 it will connect Guatemala with the Yucatecan capital, on a route that will also link other countries, such as Honduras, El Salvador, and Belize.
When announcing this new route, in the most recent edition of the Tianguis Turístico de México (TTM), in November 2021, the governor of Yucatán, Mauricio Vila Dosal, highlighted that the more connectivity there was in the State, the more tourists would arrive; For this reason, this flight is scheduled to start in March of next year and will also pay for the recovery of the sector.
“There is a lot of work to do, the important thing is not to bring the flight but to maintain it and we are going to promote it and make sure that this route remains for many years and is the benchmark for relations between Mexico and Guatemala, and especially with Yucatán,” he mentioned in your moment.

Regarding this new connection, the general administrator of the air terminal, Óscar Carrillo Maldonado, pointed out that they are waiting for the airline to request the aeronautical permits for the planes to land at the airport, which he hopes can be completed in the coming months.
“It is an authorization process that they first have to have with the aeronautical authority and then they make the request to us for the space to land at the airport and until now we know that they are right in those permitting and authorization procedures,” he said.
For his part, the CEO of the TAG Airlines company, Julio Gamero, stressed that with this new operation the air connectivity of all the states that make up the region of the Mayan world will be strengthened, which will be of great benefit to both parties.
He pointed out that the airline currently flies to 27 countries and they hope that as of 2022 they can have a modern fleet of airplanes. It is worth mentioning that since August 13 of last year, the airline with the Guatemalan flag flies to Cancun and Tapachula, and from December it would connect to Cancun with Flores, Tikal.
