The traditional festival of Bavaria, Germany will be held in Mérida from October 14 to 16
MÉRIDA, Yucatan.- After two years that it was not held due to the Covid-19 pandemic in Yucatán, this year the Oktoberfest returns to Mérida, an event in which there will be food, drinks, desserts, breads, music, dances and games for All ages.
It is an event inspired by German traditions, where mainly Bavarian sausages, pretzels, mashed potatoes and sauerkraut are eaten, and different beers are offered.
Why is Oktoberfest celebrated?
The Oktoberfest began in the Bavarian city of Munich in 1810, to celebrate the marriage of Luis I of Bavaria, the celebrations were from October 12 to 17 of that year.
Then it began to be held annually, only interrupted by world wars and epidemics, which is why it became the most important beer festival in the world.
In our country it has been celebrated since 1971 in the German Club of Mexico, while in Mérida the Oktoberfest celebration began approximately 16 years ago with the aim of promoting German culture in a family atmosphere.
