Mauricio Vila Dosal and Michelle Fridman Hirsch, Governor of Yucatán and head of the State Secretariat for Tourism Development, respectively, together with executives from Viva Aerobus, celebrated last, December 23, the start of operations of the new routes from Merida to Querétaro and León.
According to Viva Aerobus, the Mérida – Querétaro route is a service that only Viva offers non-stop with two flights a week, operating on Mondays and Fridays. For its part, the Mérida – León route also offers two weekly flights, one every Sunday and Thursday.
“We are very happy to begin to see the Viva Aerobus hub materialize with the first routes. Now, we are even more connected to the center of the country”, commented Michelle Fridman Hirsch.
The head of Sefotur highlighted that two routes are added to these to the Bajío plus the Querétaro route, with which Yucatán will now be connected several days of the week in an important way.
The growth of Viva Aerobus in Mérida results from the recent designation of the Manuel Crescencio Rejón International Airport as its new and sixth operating base, that is, a city where some aircraft spend the night as well as crew members.
Under this commitment to the state`s air connectivity, Viva highlighted that it has positioned itself as the airline with the widest offer in Mérida with eleven routes, flying to Camagüey, Mexico City (AICM), Guadalajara, Havana, León, Monterrey , Querétaro, Toluca, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Veracruz and Villahermosa.
As a result of this offer, the airline increased the number of passengers to/from Mérida by 49% in the first eleven months of the year compared to the same period in 2021, adding more than one million passengers this 2022.
Viva highlighted that it has been responsible for transporting a third of the three million passengers that, to date, have transited through the Mérida Airport this year, a record number for this air terminal during 2022.
He also recalled that, during 2019, Yucatán reached historic figures in the Tourism sector, being a record year for the state, a record of 2.8 million air travelers to the International Airport of the City of Mérida.
Michel Fridman explained that “greater air connectivity always adds to the positioning of Yucatan as a promoter center of regional development in southern Mexico. We thank Viva Aerobus for their confidence in the great potential of Mérida and for continuing to grow in our beautiful city”.
“We continue to expand our offer in this very important city for Mexico, backed by the trust of our customers and our commitment to always offer low prices. We are sure that Mérida – León and Mérida – Querétaro will contribute, like all our routes, to boosting tourism and economic benefits, especially at this time of year when more people want to travel and meet their loved ones”, said Walfred Castro, Director of Communication of Viva Aerobus.
