Cases of Dengue, Zika, and Chikungunya on the rise in Yucatan

Merida, Yucatan, September 18, 2023 – The State Government is continuing its efforts to prevent and combat the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, which transmits dengue, Zika, and chikungunya, in Merida and its rural areas, as well as in other municipalities in the state, and is reinforcing the fumigation carried out in the last week.

The Ministry of Health of Yucatan (SSY) announced that since Sunday 17, brigades of the agency carried out the work of fumigation of the neighborhoods: Emiliano Zapata Sur III, El Renacimiento, San José Tecoh II, San José Tecoh Sur, San Marcos, San Antonio Xluch III, Jardines del Roble, Roble Agrícola II, San Marcos Nocoh, El Roble, Manuel Crescencio Rejón, El Roble III, Villas Mérida, Libertad, Sac Nicté, Graciano Ricalde, Ciudad Industrial, Opichén, Núcleo Mulsay, Nueva Mulsay, Mulsay, Jardines de Nueva Mulsay; and Jardines de Nueva Mulsay II.

On Tuesday 19 the brigades will work in Nueva Mayapán, Los Reyes, Manuel Ávila Camacho, Mayapán, Lourdes Industrial, Villa Fontana, Del Carmen, Chuminópolis, Waspa, Lázaro Cárdenas, Wallis, Pacabtún, Nva. He insisted on the call to citizens to leave the doors and windows of their homes open when the brigades circulate through their homes, health is a shared responsibility and he is grateful to the population for paying attention to this invitation.

Likewise, it is very useful for those who have pets to wash all containers and drinking fountains constantly, covering those containers that accumulate water, getting rid of those that can serve as deposits, and turning over containers and dishes to prevent them from becoming potential breeding grounds.

He also recommended the population to take additional preventive measures, such as the use of repellents, household insecticides, and protecting windows with screens, while insisting on the importance of keeping their yards clean, tidy, and free of hatcheries, he concluded.
