Warning of potential tropical cyclone in the Gulf of Mexico

- June 17, 2024

The phenomenon maintains sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour.

It will be this Wednesday, June 19th, when the potential tropical cyclone that is over the Gulf of Mexico will become a tropical storm, according to forecasts issued this afternoon by the National Hurricane Center.

The disturbance is moving at 11 kilometers per hour towards the north-northwest, moving away from the Yucatán Peninsula, but it is still over the Bay of Campeche, and the cloudiness it brings is causing heavy rains in the region.

The phenomenon maintains sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour, with stronger gusts, and it is slowly expected to strengthen.

As already mentioned, it is currently a low-pressure system, and by this Wednesday it would already be a tropical storm.

Authorities in our country are maintaining a tropical storm watch due to the evolution of this phenomenon in the coming days, which upon becoming a tropical storm would impact the west coast of the Gulf of Mexico.

For now, it does not represent a danger for Yucatán, other than with the presence of heavy rains and wind gusts.
