Low-Pressure Area Forming Tonight to Bring More Rain to Yucatán

- June 21, 2024

The National Hurricane Center has confirmed that a broad area of low pressure will form tonight in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico, specifically in the Bay of Campeche. This type of phenomenon previously led to Tropical Storm “Alberto.”

This new low-pressure system has a significant chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 48 hours, according to the official report. During that estimated time frame, there is a 50% likelihood that the low-pressure area could intensify its wind potential. Over a 7-day period, that possibility increases to  60% .

Previous reports indicate that the low-pressure area will bring overcast skies, rain, and gusty winds to Yucatán. The population is advised to stay alert and monitor updates from the relevant authorities.
