For the construction of new investment agreements, tourism promotion, gastronomy and culture exchange as well as academic exchange, Yucatán governor-elect Joaquín Díaz Mena received in his offices the Portuguese ambassador to Mexico, Manuel Carvalho.
The governor-elect discussed with the ambassador on the new opportunities for investment that the “Plan Renacimiento Maya”, that includes the modernization of Puerto Progreso port, connection of the Tren Maya train to the port and its upcoming cargo service; interconnection with the Tren Transístmico that opens up important logistical opportunities mainly with Asian markets and the launch of Industrial Parks that will have Natural Gas, opening doors to new investments.
On his part, accompanied by Mr. Carlos Guillermo Aguirre Aguilar and Frank Sosa Candila, president and vice-president of the Yucatán Gastronomic Federation, the Portuguese ambassador expressed interest in establishing bridges with Díaz Mena’s government to attract investment to Portugal, opening doors for Yucatecan investors interested in expanding their offer to the European country.
During the meeting, they also discussed the tourist opportunities offered by our state for “experience tourism”, which contrasts with the traditional “Sun and Beach” offer that does not have the cultural and gastronomic richness of Yucatán for visitors. They discussed exploring opportunities for direct connectivity and the new railway system to introduce visitors to the “Maya World”.
The ambassador reiterated his interest in establishing these bridges with Yucatán’s next governor, recalling that he visited our state as a tourist 20 years ago and recently accompanied President López Obrador at the inauguration of the Tren Maya. He stated that today’s Yucatán is part of the conversation in his country, making great interest in Yucatan’s economic, tourism and cultural offer.
Finally, Díaz Mena thanked the visit and reaffirmed his confidence that after October 1st a close partnership of collaboration and friendship between Portugal and Yucatán will consolidate, reflected in investment and development opportunities for the well-being of both peoples.
