According to a report from the State’s Civil Protection Department (Procivy), tropical waves 17 and 18 are expected to pass over the Yucatán Peninsula this week. The report states that two tropical waves will enter the peninsula between August 19 and August 25, bringing heavy rainfall to the state of Yucatán.
The first wave, number 17, is currently located about 990 kilometers east of Yucatán and moving at a speed of 35 km/h. By Monday afternoon, it is expected to be off the coast of Quintana Roo, where it will begin to generate its effects.
In Yucatán, heavy rainfall is forecasted for Tuesday, August 20, through Wednesday, August 21, with possible very heavy downpours. The remnants of the storm are expected to continue until Wednesday afternoon in the southeastern and northeastern municipalities, gradually affecting the rest of the state.
Strong winds, exceeding 60 km/h, are also predicted as storm clouds pass over the Yucatán Peninsula, with rainfall occurring primarily in the afternoons in Mérida.
Similarly, the second tropical wave, number 18, is expected to begin generating effects starting Friday, August 23. This wave will affect central and southern parts of the state.
