Five Yucatecan Chefs Among the World’s Best: Yucatán’s Flavors Conquer Haute Cuisine

Five Yucatecan chefs have been recognized among the best in the world by “The Best Chef Awards 2024.” The awards ceremony took place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where the finest in international gastronomy gathered to honor the most outstanding chefs.

Out of 550 gastronomy professionals, 18 Mexican chefs stood out, with five Yucatecan chefs receiving recognition and making it onto the list of the world’s best.

New Classification System

This year, “The Best Chef Awards 2024” introduced a new classification system with one, two, and three “knives” to highlight culinary excellence and recognize both gastronomic legends and young beginners. The categories are as follows:

– Three Knives: For chefs who achieved 80% or more of the maximum points.

– Two Knives: For those who achieved at least 40% of the points, representing world-class skill.

– One Knife: For those who obtained 20% or more, highlighting their notable contribution to the culinary field.

Yucatecan Chefs Shine on the International Stage

Five Yucatecan chefs placed the Peninsula in the international spotlight, achieving prominent positions in the “World Class” (two knives) and “Excellent” (one knife) categories.

– Two Knives Category: Pedro Evia and his partner Eduardo Rukos from the restaurant Kuuk were awarded two knives for their innovative Yucatecan dishes, focusing on biodiversity and local ingredients. Roberto Solís from the restaurant Huniik and Wilson Alonso from the Ya’axche Gastronomic Center in Halachó also received two knives for their fusion of modern culinary techniques with the characteristic flavors of Yucatecan gastronomy.

– One Knife Category: Chef Luis Ronzón from Chablé Yucatán in Chocholá received the award in the one-knife category. He offers unique experiences in each dish he prepares, aiming to take his diners to the heart of Yucatán with every bite.
