An investigation is underway by the Yucatán State Attorney General’s Office into the death of social media influencer Luz María Becerra Agatón, whose body was found in a hotel pool on June 1st. The 27-year-old fitness enthusiast and business owner had been spending the night with family and friends at the Coco Resort and Villas hotel.

Despite efforts by those present to pull her out of the water, Luz María was pronounced dead upon arrival of emergency services.

The Yucatán State Attorney General’s Office has determined that the initial cause of death was drowning, but other lines of investigation remain open in light of questions raised by her family and the public. She was crowned queen of the 2024 Motul Carnival and won first place in the bikini category of the national “Mr. Mexico” competition. She also had a prominent role in the amateur “Mr. Olympia” held in Spain.

Beyond her success on the stage, Luz María was a respected businesswoman, owner of the Golden Gym and an active sports promoter in her community. Her commitment to fitness and entrepreneurship made her a role model for many young women in her region.

As the investigation continues, the Yucatán community is left to mourn the loss of a talented and influential individual who had built a reputation as a leader and entrepreneur.
