Profeco Cracks Down on Mérida Gas Stations in Coordinated Operation with National Guard

A joint operation between Mexico’s Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) and the National Guard has led to the closure of five gas stations in Mérida, following allegations of improper distribution of gasoline. The crackdown was carried out after Profeco’s investigation revealed probable irregularities in the delivery of fuel at one of the targeted stations.

According to sources, the operation was based on a thorough analysis of various indicators, including citizen complaints and documented cases of non-compliance with regulations. The inspections were conducted to ensure that gas stations are providing customers with the full liters paid for.

At a gas station located on 59th Street between 84th and 82nd Streets in the Santiago neighborhood, Profeco’s federal prosecutor César Iván Escalante was present during the closure ceremony. He revealed that tests carried out at the station indicated probable alterations in the delivery of gasoline.

The investigation identified seven instruments with discrepancies, including one due to system failure, four inconsistencies in the logbook, and two related to the pump battery. The findings suggest a possible breach of regulation regarding the dispensation of fuel.

The coordinated effort between Profeco and the National Guard aims to ensure compliance with consumer protection laws and maintain public trust in the gas station industry.
