Subject ignores restriction and climbs the Kukulcán pyramid
MÉRIDA, Yucatan.- Just last January, a tourist climbed the steps of the Kukulcán pyramid, in the archaeological zone of Chichén Itzá, and this weekend another visitor, presumably from outside the State, did the same in the same place.
Apparently, it is becoming customary for visitors to violate federal regulations, and although administrative penalties ranging from 100 to 50 thousand pesos are supposedly applied, it is not clear if these people actually pay them or are allowed to go without any problem.
According to a video circulating on social networks this Monday, a tourist simply ignored the provisions in Chichén Itzá that prohibit climbing the pyramid, and went quietly up, and when he was discovered he had already advanced several steps.
Going up to these archaeological monuments is not allowed because that causes their deterioration to be faster, but for some visitors, as has been seen, these provisions are a dead letter.
The case is that an employee of the place had to go up to make the visitor descend, and when workers in the area were asked if the tourist will face charges or be fined, they only answered that they will face the Law of Archaeological Sites and Monuments, and will proceed before the legal administration.
A woman climbed in January
In January, a woman did the same in the same place, climbing 92 steps of the castle, and it was reported that she would receive an administrative sanction that could range from 100 to 50 thousand pesos, but it was not announced if finally the fine was applied or she was let go freely.
