In the early hours of this Tuesday, the driver of a trailer lost his life when the vehicle caught fire after colliding on the Mérida-Cancún federal highway.

MÉRIDA, Yucatán.— Once again, the free highway to Cancún became the scene of a traffic accident in which one person lost his life.

Early this Tuesday, a man died charred in the cabin of a truck that caught fire after colliding with the base of a reading arch of the Ministry of Public Security.

The accident occurred at kilometer 65 of the federal highway around 2 in the morning. The authorities continue to work on the scene, so a part of the road is closed to traffic.

According to the information collected, the trailer is owned by the Potosinos transport company; The driver has not yet been identified, however, it was found out that he was nicknamed “El lord”.

The parents of the minors, a 7-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy, died at the scene. The injured were taken to Piste and Valladolid for medical care, but due to the seriousness of their injuries, they were taken to Mérida in one of the helicopters of the Ministry of Public Security (SSP).
