The Mexican private sector, represented by the Coordinating Business Council (CCE), met with incoming president Claudia Sheinbaum to discuss the country’s economic agenda and proposed reforms.

CCE President Francisco Cervantes emphasized the importance of dialogue in addressing the private sector’s concerns, stating that “the only path we know for working on public and interest agendas is through dialogue.” He also expressed support for Sheinbaum’s proposed constitutional reforms, particularly regarding judicial reform, which he believes will help achieve certainty in the country.

Cervantes noted that the private sector has offered its experience and vision to build consensus during this transition period. He extended an olive branch to Sheinbaum, stating that they are willing to work together with pride and respect.

The private sector also announced plans to invest over $42 billion in Mexico by 2024, which Cervantes attributed to confidence in the election results. The investments come from companies such as Fomento Económico Mexicano (Femsa), TransCanada, México Pacific, Ternium, and Iberdrola.

Other business leaders, including Rolando Vega Sáenz, President of the Mexican Business Council (CMN), Octavio de la Torre, President of Concanaco, Jorge Castañón, former leader of Coparmex and CCE, and Carlos Salazar, former director of Femsa, also attended the meeting. They shared their concerns about the proposed reforms and emphasized the need for a dialogue-driven approach to address them.

Overall, the meeting aimed to establish a positive relationship between the private sector and the incoming government, with a focus on promoting economic growth and development in Mexico.
