 Heavy Rains and Strong Winds Forecast for Mexico

A strong low-pressure system is expected to bring heavy rains and strong winds to several states in Mexico over the next 24 hours.

Heavy rainfalls of 150-250 mm are forecasted for regions of Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas, and Veracruz. Intense rainfalls of 75-150 mm are expected in zones of Campeche, Chiapas, Colima, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Michoacán, Nayarit, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, and Yucatán. Very strong rainfalls of 50-75 mm are predicted for areas of Ciudad de México, Coahuila, Estado de México, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Morelos, and Sonora.

Strong winds of 50-70 km/h are expected in Tamaulipas and northern Veracruz, while gusts of 40-60 km/h are forecasted for Campeche, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, and Yucatán. Heavy rainfalls may lead to landslides, increased river levels, and flooding in low-lying areas.

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) is urging citizens to follow the recommendations of Protección Civil and take necessary precautions against heavy rains and strong winds.

 Tomorrow’s Forecast

Heavy rainfalls are expected in regions of Colima, Jalisco, and Michoacán. Intense rainfalls are forecasted for zones of Chiapas, Durango, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Morelos, Nayarit, Oaxaca, Puebla, San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa, and Veracruz.

Strong winds are expected in Chihuahua, Sonora, and Tamaulipas. Gusts of 40-60 km/h are forecasted for Campeche, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, Veracruz, and Yucatán.

 Temperatures

Maximum temperatures are expected to reach 40-45°C in Baja California; 35-40°C in Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Sonora, and Sinaloa; and 30-35°C in Campeche, Chiapas, northeastern Durango, Guerrero, Michoacán, Morelos, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, and Yucatán.
