- June 25, 2024

Agents from the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) arrested Mauricio “V” and Alan “C” in Tlaxcala, suspected of being involved in the theft of over 6,000 passport booklets from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE).

Following a complaint filed by the foreign ministry, officers from the Federal Ministerial Police, affiliated with the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC), coordinated an intelligence operation to track down these booklets, considered national security documents.

During a surveillance operation, police found two individuals on a motorcycle in Calpulalpan who abandoned two cardboard boxes containing 1,328 passport booklets.

Additionally, according to the FGR, during a personal and vehicular inspection, 24 bags of substance with characteristics similar to methamphetamine were seized, as well as five bags of green plant matter believed to be marijuana. A crystal pipe, five military cartridges, and four cellular phones were also found.

The detainees and seized items have been placed at the disposal of the Federal Public Ministry (MPF), which is continuing its investigation. Due to the nature of the case, the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO) and the Tlaxcala Federal Prosecution are also integrating their investigative file, reported the FGR on Tuesday.

SRE reported the theft several days ago

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that on June 19, a total of 6,177 passport booklets were stolen, which were to be sent to consular offices in Quintana Roo, Tabasco, Tlaxcala, Veracruz, and Yucatán, allowing for the issuance of official documents.
