The Mexican Tourism Secretariat (Sectur) has awarded certifications to six hotels under construction along the Maya Train route in southeastern Mexico, including one in Tulum.
According to José Zeind Domínguez, director general of Sectur’s Certification Division, the certifications were handed out during a quality tourism award ceremony held this morning in Cancún. The event was attended by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, Bernardo Cueto Riestra, state tourism secretary, and other officials.
The certified hotels are: Hotel Tren Maya Edzná, Hotel Tren Maya Calakmul, Hotel Tren Maya Palenque, Hotel Tren Maya Chichén Itzá, Hotel Tren Maya Nuevo Uxmal, and Hotel Tren Maya Tulum. These certifications were awarded for the quality of planning and development of these tourist projects, which are being built in conjunction with the Maya Train.
In total, 1,324 quality tourism awards, hotel classification certificates, and tour guide accreditations were handed out to companies that guarantee excellence in their services and products.
Zeind Domínguez stated that the certifications for the Tren Maya hotels were issued in accordance with agreements made with the Olmeca-Maya-Mexica Airport, Railway, and Concessions Group (GAFSACOMM), created in April 2022 and affiliated with the Mexican Ministry of Defense.
According to government reports, the Tren Maya hotels will be classified as three and four-star establishments, offering a range of amenities and services, from standard rooms to luxury suites, ensuring a satisfactory stay for all visitors along the Maya Train route.
Although construction on these hotels is currently 50% complete, it is expected that they will be finished by the end of 2024.
