According to SEFOTUR, these routes are confirmed but will be implemented by the new executive administration that takes office on October 1st of this year.

Michelle Fridman Hirsch, head of SEFOTUR, highlighted the growth in passenger numbers at the airport, which has more than doubled its capacity since the pandemic and now offers 67% more routes and 97% more seats on international flights.

The arrival of Viva Aerobus Hub is a “turning point” that has allowed Yucatán to attract new routes connecting Yucatecans with tourist markets, commercial dynamics, and social networks, which benefits the state economy.

From January to July this year, MID registered 2,107,086 passengers, a 0.4% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

The airport currently operates with 20 routes: 14 national and 6 international to Miami, Orlando, Texas, Dallas, Havana, Cuba, and Guatemala.

Regarding summer vacation reports, Fridman Hirsch noted that while it’s not Yucatán’s strongest season, good numbers have been found on the coast, where Progreso has a new infrastructure for cruise passengers.

The ports of Progreso, Celestún, Sisal, Telchac Puerto, Río Lagartos, and El Cuyo have seen significant visitor movement this vacation period.
