At the Walmart located in the Montejo area it is the most expensive of all the southeastern country.
The Federal Consumer Prosecutor’s Office (PROFECO) in its report on who are the prices, aired supermarkets in Mérida, Yucatán and Cancun in Quintana Roo, as part of the most expensive sites to buy the basic basket.
According to PROFECO, it evaluated the prices of products that integrate the basic basket, a total of 24 foods and personal hygiene products, and the commitments made with companies in the country are to maintain the price below 1,039 pesos.
The products that make up the basic basket are: vegetable oil, rice, tuna in oil, sugar, beef steak, white onion, jalapeño pepper, pork chop, black bean, egg white of 18 pieces, toilet soap, tomato, cow’s milk, lemon, apple, orange, white bread, potato, toilet paper, whole chicken, sardine can, corn tortilla, carrot and pasta for soup.
The head of the PROFECO, David Aguilar Romero, pointed out that last week, from July 22 to 26, the price of the basic basket reached national levels at 812 pesos, and some entities in the country that sell the basic basket cheapest is in Queretaro in the super market Bodega Aurrera del center with Constituyents Avenue at 760 pesos.
However, in southern Mexico, PROFECO pointed out that during the same period of July 22 to 26, it was in Merida, Yucatan city, at Walmart Express supermarket, located on the Montejo branch, where the price reached 1,016 pesos.
Even the official recognized that although it remains the most expensive point in the Yucatan Peninsula, the company has been working to lower prices, which during the last month had maintained above the national cost of the basic basket.
“We see that Walmart is already lowering a little more at the prices that had given us in the last month”, said the head of PROFECO.
Regarding the price of LP gas, PROFECO conducted nationwide checks on 846 sales points or distributors. The official stated that generally the prices are variable in the 220 regions into which the country is divided, but in the south, he mentioned to Yucatan’s and also Calkiní Municipality, Campeche’s gas stations that sell the liter at 19 pesos with 73 cents, thus maintaining below its maximum price.
