Love for dance, culture and traditions

For Nelsy Ku Be, artistic coordinator of the children’s ballet, it is a great pride and satisfaction to see how in the little ones love for dance, culture and traditions grows and develops.

Admitting that she experiences mixed feelings, happiness and nostalgia, seeing six couples of dancers who have exceeded the age limit and recently debuted in the State Government’s Ballet Juvenile leave. “It’s time to feed the team, we hope many children and girls will join the audition,” said the teacher, supported by Joaquín Guzmán Cárdenas, who guides the group and shares his experience, knowledge and passion for dance with the young dancers of this ballet.

A family of dancers

For Elizabeth Dounis, Sedeculta’s dance groups coordinator, it is commendable Nelsy’s work as she has a family of dancers.

Also highlighting the teacher’s ability to spread joy through dance, to the point where children from different municipalities have been part of the ballet without worrying about travel time, punctually attending rehearsals and being very committed and formal. “We want more people to join and give them the opportunity to know the dance,” he stressed. The group was founded on May 15, 2019 and during the COVID-19 pandemic confinement its members maintained contact and practiced remotely. When they met again, they did so with enthusiasm and currently seek new talents to continue showcasing Yucatecan folklore. — Darinka Ruiz Morimoto
