Having a cenote at home sounds amazing due to the wonder they represent; however, these bodies of water require a lot of care.
Recently, there have been proposals to buy houses in Yucatán that have the particularity of having a cenote on the property, raising their cost, as these natural water bodies are an important part of the region. Therefore, having one is special, but also problematic.
As previously reported, in Sotuta, foreigners offered a family one million dollars for their land, which has a cenote in the yard; however, the owners refused to sell it.
Other offers have emerged in Yucatán, where they have even offered 11 million Mexican pesos just because a property has a cenote, which increases its value.
Buyers only seek to exploit the tourist aspect by purchasing properties with cenotes without considering the risks this may present.
Problems of Having a Cenote at Home
There are several risks that can arise when buying a property with a cenote, or finding one on the property, primarily the risk of collapse, as part of the ground could open up and extend, thereby losing the property.
Another problem can be humidity, as having a water channel underneath represents problems for the surroundings, mainly inside the property.

Water care must be extremely important when finding one, so it may not be possible to have any type of drainage on the property due to the likelihood of it filtering into the cenote.
Therefore, environmental authorities would be closely monitoring the property and water care to avoid problems with this vital resource in the region.
