Dry Law in Yucatán for Upcoming Elections

This weekend, Yucatán will enforce a dry law due to elections for police commissioners in Mérida on Sunday, November 24. The Ministry of Health has confirmed the measures through the Official Gazette of the Government of Yucatán.

According to agreement SSY 04/2024, the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages will be prohibited in police stations and sub-police stations of Mérida on November 24, 2024. This measure is in accordance with article 253-F, section II, of the Health Law of the State of Yucatán and article 65 of the Regulations for the Election of Auxiliary Authorities of the City Council of Mérida.

The prohibition will apply to establishments and places referred to in article 253-A of the Health Law of the State of Yucatán.

The dry law will be enforced in the following police stations and sub-police stations:

– Cholul

– Dzitya

– Dzoyaxche

– Noc-Ac

The dry law will begin at 12:00 a.m. on November 23, 2024, and will end at 5:00 p.m. on November 24, 2024.

Compliance and Sanctions

Individuals and establishments that fail to comply with the dry law will face administrative or criminal sanctions as provided by the applicable regulations.

In accordance with article 253-F, section I, of the Health Law of the State of Yucatán and article 301, second paragraph, of the Law of Electoral Institutions and Procedures of the State of Yucatán, the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages will also be prohibited in the municipalities of Chichimilá and Izamal. This prohibition will start at 12:00 a.m. on November 23, 2024, and will end at 10:00 a.m. on November 25, 2024, due to the elections on November 24, 2024.
