Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena and Sedatu Head Edna Vega Rangel Sign Landmark Housing Agreement

The federal and state governments of Yucatan have signed a collaboration agreement for the Housing for Well-Being 2025 program, which aims to construct 20,000 homes in the region over the next six years. This year alone, 2,500 homes will be built.

Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena and Edna Vega Rangel, head of the federal Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu), signed the agreement. Díaz Mena emphasized that this initiative marks the beginning of a long-overdue housing policy in Yucatan, providing thousands of families with safe and dignified living spaces.

A socioeconomic study will be conducted to include as many people as possible in the program and tailor each home to their needs. Díaz Mena stated, “This agreement is the foundation of a more just and equitable Yucatan, where the right to housing becomes a reality for all.”

Vega Rangel highlighted the unprecedented vision and scope of this program, which aims to build one million homes nationwide. The agreement also seeks support from municipalities for administrative facilitation and potential reduction or forgiveness of payments, ultimately reducing housing costs.

“This agreement is an honor to sign, as it benefits our people,” concluded Vega Rangel.
