As the election day for the Judicial Branch in Yucatán approaches on June 1, voters are looking to learn more about the candidates vying for positions. With a total of 14 seats up for grabs, the Superior Court of Justice and the Judicial Disciplinary Tribunal will be deciding who will administer justice in the state.
Since March 30, candidates have been campaigning through various means, including walking the streets, visiting public spaces, social media, and the media. To learn more about their profiles, careers, academic backgrounds, and views on the administration of justice, voters can visit the website of the Electoral and Citizen Participation Institute of Yucatán (IEPAC).
Magistrates play a crucial role in interpreting laws and have the power to overrule judges’ rulings when appeals or amparos are filed. They can also modify or confirm previous decisions and intervene in conflicts between authorities, especially on issues of constitutionality or human rights violations.
To vote in the Yucatán Judicial Branch election on June 1, voters need to present their official INE identification and go to the corresponding polling place. Election time will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 6:00 p.m., the same as previous presidential elections and those for other elected offices.
