The city of Mérida is gearing up to host one of its most anticipated events, the 2026 Mérida Banorte Marathon, which will take place on January 4. With a prize pool of over 800,000 pesos, Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada officially announced the call for entries to participate in this year’s edition.
The mayor emphasized that the city is working towards consolidating the marathon as a national and international benchmark by actively promoting it in other cities and seeking to expand participation. This move aims to generate greater economic benefits for Mérida households while promoting sports among its citizens.
This year, the marathon route has been redesigned to prioritize mobility and visits to iconic locations such as Paseo de Montejo, La Plancha Park, the Centenario, and avenues like Colón and Itzáes. Additionally, changes and surprises are expected to boost the spirit of participants and encourage more people to join in celebrating the city’s anniversary.
“We extend an open invitation to the world to join the celebrations for Mérida’s anniversary, especially to the families of Mérida,” said Mayor Patrón Laviada. “Let’s be the first to register and participate. Let’s continue making Mérida a city that advances, promotes sport as a tool for development, unity, and peace.”
Registration fees will vary depending on the registration period, with prices ranging from 480 to 700 pesos per participant. The marathon categories include sub-master, master, veteran, and mixed wheelchair (for ages 18 and up), as well as an open category for those between 18 and 29.
The event has featured runners from over 20 countries and will once again be a qualifier for the 2026 Boston Marathon, reaffirming its international prestige. Participants can register online at www.marathonmerida.dashport.run or at merida.gob.mx/marathon, as well as at ticket sales points throughout the city.
This year’s marathon promises to be an exciting event that brings together runners from around the world to celebrate Mérida’s anniversary and promote sports among its citizens.
