The video surveillance cameras installed in the San Marcos Huixtoco booth captured the exact moment in which a cargo truck hits six cars after apparently running out of brakes, at kilometer 33 of the Mexico-Puebla highway.
Drums of more than 200 liters of a flammable white liquid were spilled in the incident, which soon caused an explosion and large flames.
A road accident in Puebla, on the highway to Mexico City, left 19 dead yesterday after a trailer lost control, authorities reported.
“When crossing the booth, the truck dragged six vehicles, causing the death of 19 people and three injured. Among the deceased is the driver of the unit ”, indicated Caminos y Puentes Federales (Capufe) through a statement.
The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico reported that at the time of the incident drums of more than 200 liters of a flammable white liquid were spilled that soon caused an explosion and large flames, causing the death of 19 people, in addition to at least three injured.
According to Capufe, the liquid that the truck was transporting was based on shampoo and the accident took place at 12:45 pm yesterday. The accident was reported at a toll booth at kilometer 33 of the Mexico-Puebla highway, near toll booth number seven.
According to workers and people who live in the area, there have been many recent crashes in that sector, since, they said, from more than 10 kilometers before the booth there is a downward slope and some trucks do not check their brakes although there are braking ramps.
Traffic is stopped in both directions. Capufe recommended motorists to use the free Mexico-Puebla highway.
Besides the trailer, there are at least seven charred cars. Experts from the Prosecutor’s Office raised the bodies, forensic photographs, and all kinds of investigations to determine the causes of the tragedy.
According to workers and people who live in the area, this is the fourth accident in a month at that toll booth, monthly there are accidents, something has to be done.
