Mérida reaches nearly 60°C in heat index. The high temperatures in at least six entities of the country do not subside; this Wednesday, May 15, the National Meteorological Service reported that there would be an extremely hot environment with temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius during the day. These states are Campeche, San Luis Potosí, Tabasco, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, and Yucatán.
Regarding the latter state, meteorologist Juan Antonio Palma Solís, who currently serves as the coordinator of the meteorology agency Meteored México, shared on his account X, formerly Twitter, that the heat index in the city of Mérida was nearly 60°C, which caused various reactions among social media users.
What is the Heat Index?
According to the National Water Commission (Conagua), it is the sensation of heat or cold that a person or group of people can feel due to a combination of various meteorological parameters. It is expressed in degrees Celsius in the same way that temperature is measured.
