Last Sunday, a major operation carried out by federal forces resulted in the arrest of Aldrin Miguel J.J., alias ‘El Chaparrito’, alleged plaza boss of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), in northern Mérida, Yucatán.
The operation, executed by the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) and the Navy, took place around noon. Subsequently, a convoy transported the detainee to Mérida International Airport, from where he was taken to Mexico City to begin his legal process.
Profile of the Detainee
Aldrin Miguel Jarquín Jarquín, known as ‘El Chaparrito’, is originally from Nezahualcóyotl, State of Mexico, and is considered one of the main generators of violence in the state of Colima. His capture is significant due to his close ties with Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias ‘El Mencho’, leader of the CJNG.
Background and Connections
‘El Chaparrito’ had already been arrested in March 2022 in Zapopan, Jalisco, but managed to escape and took refuge in Mérida. His previous capture in 2022 triggered a wave of violence in Colima, where CJNG members set fire to trucks and trailers to block roads.
The arrest of ‘El Chaparrito’ has generated great interest and concern in the local community, given his alleged involvement in criminal activities and his connections with businessmen in Mérida.
The capture of ‘El Chaparrito’ represents a significant blow to the CJNG.
