Claudia Sheinbaum, the virtual president-elect, arrived in Yucatán, where she was welcomed by party members, supporters, and the elected governor of the state, Joaquín ‘Huacho’ Díaz Mena.
This marks Sheinbaum’s first visit to Yucatán since the recent elections, which saw the victory of the candidate from the coalition “Sigamos Haciendo Historia,” wresting one of the last strongholds from the PAN (National Action Party).
The future leader will accompany President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on a tour of the Mexican southeast this weekend. The tour includes reviewing the progress of the Tren Maya and inaugurating the Edzná archaeological site museum.
Sheinbaum, cautious about the proposed changes in the Judiciary
This joint third tour takes place amid the ongoing debate over the Judiciary reform, which proposes selecting judges, magistrates, and ministers through popular vote.
When asked about the first dialogue forum on this initiative, Sheinbaum responded positively, celebrating the participation of all and the public debate. Regarding the proposal for replacement of judges, she simply said, “We’ll discuss it.”
Earlier, President López Obrador stated that the procedures, election processes, eligibility criteria, and timing would be defined in the nine congressional forums. He also emphasized that current Judiciary members should not be excluded as candidates but must undergo public scrutiny for people to decide whether they retain their positions.
