In recent weeks, several crocodiles have been seen roaming the streets and neighborhoods of Puerto Progreso due to heavy rains.
The Ecological Police safely rescued a crocodile that was on the Mérida-Progreso highway at the exit of the port trying to return to its habitat.
The rescue occurred when the officers assisted the reptile, which was reported attempting to cross the Mérida-Progreso highway, a situation that endangered its life due to the constant vehicular traffic in the area.
The animal was about 500 meters from the port exit, in the lane from north to south, heading toward Merida. Upon arriving at the scene, the municipal officers first directed traffic to prevent harm to the crocodile.
Subsequently, one of the agents guided the animal to the mangrove area, where it was no longer in danger.
It’s worth noting that in recent months, crocodiles have been seen roaming the streets and neighborhoods of this port, initially due to high temperatures and drought, and now due to the heavy rains that raised the water level in the swamp, prompting these reptiles to emerge.
