Through the Strategy for Addressing Educational Backlogs and the Basic Education Centers for Adults, 835 individuals from 18 Yucatecan municipalities received their certificates for primary and/or secondary education.
The ceremony took place at the “José Vasconcelos” auditorium of the Yucatán State Government’s Ministry of Education (SEGEY), during which certificates for the 2023-2024 school year were awarded to individuals aged 15 and older who completed their basic education level.
Representing the head of SEGEY, Liborio Vidal Aguilar, the General Coordinator of Strategic Programs, Alfonso Álvarez Arceo, accompanied by the Coordinator of Basic Education Centers for Adults, Reyna Mercedes Roca Escamilla, congratulated each person who made the decision to complete their primary or secondary education. They emphasized the significant step these individuals took toward their educational future.
“Today, we feel very happy to present you with this certificate, which undoubtedly reflects your effort and dedication. Each of your stories of overcoming obstacles inspires us as public servants to continue working so that more Yucatecan women and men can obtain their certificates, enabling them to achieve their goals and dreams,” added Álvarez Arceo.
Such is the story of 94-year-old student María Grimilda Dorantes, who left school in fourth grade due to economic constraints. Over the years, she persevered and successfully completed her Basic Education studies.
Similarly, Franco Alejandro Herrera Álvarez, a student with intellectual disabilities, overcame adversity and life challenges to obtain his secondary education certificate. This achievement will support his continued progress and bring him closer to fulfilling his dream of becoming a high-performance athlete.”
