After an operation, a small crocodile was captured that had been spotted in the lagoon of the West Ecological Park in Mérida

The crocodile, which was living the lagoon of the park known as Parque Hundido, has already been captured after an intense operation led by the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT).

The operation to capture the small reptile involved the collaboration of municipal authorities, Civil Protection, firefighters, and park rangers.

On Tuesday, the park rangers at the West Ecological Park launched an operation to locate the “small” crocodile that had been seen in a part of the lagoon.

This was prompted by a video that went viral on social media, claiming that a small alligator inhabited the lagoon of the park. However, it had not been seen up close.

It wasn’t until Tuesday night that authorities were able to locate the crocodile, and at this time, it is unclear what will happen next following its capture.

The Incident Sparked Concerns among Visitors

The incident sparked concerns among visitors to the park, who expressed concern about the presence of a wild animal in the lagoon. The SEMARNAT has assured that they are taking measures to ensure public safety and prevent similar incidents in the future.

It is worth noting that crocodiles are not native to the lagoons of Mérida, and their presence is often linked to human activity or accidental introductions.
