A recreation trip from the area of ​​Yucalpetén towards Alacranes Reef ended with the sinking of a yacht

The twelve occupants of ‘On The Sly’  were rescued later after the shipwreck

Before sinking, the captain of the yacht was able to call for help via radio, which was captured by the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR) and sent a rapid boat, for the rescue of the survivors. All were reported safe and sound.

The ‘On The Sly’ sank between Alacranes and Progreso, Yucatán, in the early hours of Tuesday with the 12 crew members on board, apparently vacationers who rent these boats for parties, fishing and 6-hour excursions at a cost of between $15,000 and $25,000.

They were rescued by Mexico’s Navy through the XIII Naval Zone and taken to the port of refuge in Yucalpetén, in the Municipality of Progreso.

The recreational boat set sail shortly after midnight on Tuesday heading for Alacranes when it sank, 30 miles from Progreso, due to causes not yet established, although a leak at the base or bilge, which is submerged, is being considered.
