Investigation of the Hotel Conquistador in Merida for being ‘unsanitary’

Tourists who had gastrointestinal disorders and vomiting by consuming food, possibly in poor condition or lacking hygiene while being prepared, accused the hotel’s Conquistador restaurant, so the State Health Department (SSY) carried out a surveillance operation at this accommodation center, where several inconsistencies were detected that put the health of diners at risk.

After receiving the citizen report, SSY personnel went to the site to carry out an inspection visit to the restaurant located on Paseo de Montejo, where they noticed that several food safety regulations are not being met in the handling of foods, which gave rise to opening a file on the case.

Fauna was found harmful in the kitchen and the staff is not accredited.

According to what was managed to find out, in the kitchen of the restaurant of this well-known accommodation center, fauna was found harmful, the staff does not have their food handling course certified, nor were the cleaning logbooks and water chlorination records found.

According to witnesses, Riesgos Sanitarios personnel determined that a file should be opened against the establishment and exhorted the responsible parties to correct this situation as soon as possible, since shortly afterwards a new visit will be made to verify that they comply with all the regulations. It was transmitted that due to these inconsistencies the hotel will be subject to a fine.
