The National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) and the Mérida City Council have launched a project to protect the historical monuments of Paseo de Montejo from graffiti damage. This initiative involves an investment of over 8 million pesos.

Anna Goycoolea Artis, director of the INAH in Yucatán, explained that the project includes applying an anti-graffiti coating to the monuments. This coating will help preserve the structures and facilitate their long-term conservation, reducing the need for costly future restorations.

After years of graffiti damage, particularly during the March 8 demonstrations, the monuments have undergone an extensive restoration process. Specialists meticulously removed the paint and applied a special anti-graffiti coating. This coating is designed to prevent future damage and make it easier to clean the monuments without compromising their integrity.
