Mérida, Yucatán.. – The Yucatecan businessman José Antonio Loret de Mola Gómory could have the advantage so that, on his land, of 2,000 hectares, in the municipality of Umán, the industrial corridor of the Mérida-Campeche highway, the new airport can be located, whose project promotes the federal government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
Since April of this year, in the media, Loret de Mola Gómory had announced his intention to participate in a public tender and would have 10 billion pesos available to invest together with national and foreign partners. It had even anticipated that the call would probably request the construction of a Mayan Train terminal, which would further facilitate the promotion of development in the region.
From the point of view of Loret de Mola, its lands are the best location they are located 13 kilometers from the peripheral ring of Mérida, which would give connectivity to the projects that also settle there because their plan is not only to participate in the construction of the airport but of a logistics, multimodal and industrial space.
In April he had said: “We have invested significant resources of time, money and effort to structure a logistics, multimodal and industrial project. At the same time, we visualized the importance of buying enough land in that place, which is why we acquired 2,000 hectares of land, some common lands ”.
FUNCTIONAL AIRPORT
But the Mérida international airport, “Manuel Crescencio Rejón”, is still functional. “Orange Investment”, dedicated to consulting and real estate development in Monterrey, recently published results of a rigorous analysis on Yucatán and its opportunities.
Among other sections, “Orange” that the airport’s annual growth is 13%, receives 195 domestic and 16 international flights. The most recent data on passenger mobility shows that they were 2 million 790 thousand, it is located in the ranking number 8 of flights in Mexico.
Its space is 600 hectares and effectively its perimeter fence of 6 thousand kilometers divides Mérida into two parts. Some consider the southern part as the “deep south”, where poverty predominates, although this is not determined by its location but the intensity of its activity and also the lack of specific projects and programs that tend to abate this problem.
In fact, the “Crescencio Rejón” airport is in the process of remodeling and expanding its corridors and façade. It has 14 national destinations: Mexico, Monterrey, Villahermosa, Veracruz, Cancun, Chetumal, Chihuahua, Cozumel, Hermosillo, Oaxaca, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Guadalajara, Querétaro and Bajío.
It has flights that connect Mérida with Miami, Houston, Havana, Toronto, Oakland, and Dallas.
In the figures, the air terminal is functional. However, the federal government is looking for a better, broader site for their relocation, which now arouses the interest of investors and also public opinion.
The new airport, a high-flying business for some
The new airport in the city of Mérida will be located in a quadrangle made up of the towns of Poxilá, Xtepén, Yaxcopoil and Chocholá.
According to information from the National Agrarian Registry, in that area, there are only three lands that are feasible to house a project of this size – 250 hectares each – and in freehold, that is, outside the common use lands of the Umán ejido.
These are the lands promoted by the businessman José Antonio Loret de Mola Gómory for the construction of the new international air terminal, but also for other businesses, such as the installation of a logistics center for the movement of cargo, the real business that is committed.
The lands are located less than 15 kilometers south of the Periférico de Mérida, near the border of the municipality of Umán with that of Chocholá, and have the Umán-Hopelchén highway to the east.
To the west, the land has access to federal highway 180 (Mérida-Campeche) and just where this road joins the Poxilá exit there is a La Gas gas station, a company of which Loret de Mola Gómory is a partner.
Parallel to federal highway 180 runs the gas pipeline that feeds the Hunucmá industrial zone and the railway line through which the Mayan Train will cross.
The sources consulted already foresee that the federal government will build the Mérida railway station in the area, instead of on the La Plancha land, and the fact that a couple of kilometers north of Poxilá is the location of the Railway Operations Center.
The start-up is waiting for the federal government to accept the letter of intent from Ciclo Desarrollos, SA de RL de CV, headed by Loret de Mola Gómory, as well as the approval of Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR), which will be It is currently exercising a millionaire injection of resources in the current terminal, which still has capacity for many more years.
Meanwhile, Loret de Mola Gómory is preparing with the formation of various divisions of his company: Servicios Aéreos Ciclo, SA (which operates the Chichén Itzá international airport); Agroindustrial Cycle SPR de RL (for production, purchase, sale and distribution of agricultural products); Ciclo Infraestructura, SA de CV (specialized in construction and real estate services), as well as Ciclo Servicios SA de CV (for the provision of hotel services, bars and restaurants), in addition to La Gas, for the sale of fuels (to be continued) .
