Pablo Escobar’s son holds a meeting with thousands of students from Mérida, Yucatán

- December 3, 2023

The South American explained that youth should not take and not combine weapons, drugs and money because it provides power, but triggers violence.

Before more than a thousand students from high schools in the city of Mérida, Yucatán, the son of the deceased Colombian drug trafficker, Pablo Escobar, Sebastián Marroquín Santos, sent a message of awareness about the combination of firearms, money and drugs provide power, but he stressed that it is ephemeral and mortal.

Marroquín Santos held a talk with young people thanks to a program called I go at the wheel, I drive, organized by the city council of Mérida, he said that this Saturday, December 2, marks the 30th anniversary of the death of his father, Pablo Escobar, but that the figure of his father continues to be a culture in Latin American society.

The Colombian explained that, during his life as a child, he had all the luxuries, but he never had the figure of his father because he was always worried about the arrival of the police or enemies who could kill him.

“In that photo, everything was fine, we were celebrating the birth of my sister, but in reality, the father was already a persecuted man and he had arrest warrants because he had made one of the worst mistakes of his life, he ordered the murder of the Minister of Justice of Colombia, Rodrigo Lara Bonilla in 1984 and that is why that photograph of my sister’s birth was taken in Panama City, she was born there, because it was our first exile as a family,” said Sebastián.

For 35 minutes he continued talking about the confrontations, the deaths and the events that marked the lives of him, his sister and his mother, always hiding from the authorities.

“My father’s case is an example, many times people come up to me and tell me that my father was a very successful man, I don’t think so, my father I can’t enjoy any of these things over time, absolutely nothing,” said Sebastián.

He recalled that on one occasion they were hiding in a house, and they had “mountains of dollars” but they were dying of hunger, because they could not leave the house to buy food. This is thanks to the Colombian Army and the Police, They search for them, house by house.

Now, the capo’s son, after analyzing the events that have occurred over the years, has met with at least 150 members of the families that were affected by violence that his father exercised against people.

He even detailed that people who lived in Cali or Medellín would not be able to visit him or talk on the phone for fear of dying.

“Families stay in Cali and had other members of their families in Medellín and they could not see each other again during those wars, sometimes they could not even call each other because that call could cost them their lives,” explained Sebastián.

During his presentation he showed a photograph taken in the city of Cali.

“But that photograph is important, because I took it with the son of the head of the Cali cartel and his name is Miguel Rodríguez, just like his father. He was the head of the Cali cartel and he was the one who ordered the bomb that was placed on us in the Monaco building, so according to our cultures of retaliation revenge of an eye for an eye, but Miguel and I understood the consequences of the violence of hate of resentment and we prefer to choose the path of forgiveness,” he said.
