Due to ongoing renovations at the Plaza Grande in Mérida, the Pride March may change its venue.

- June 6, 2024

June is significant for the community because it commemorates the Stonewall riots that occurred in New York in 1969. During those events, police forces repressed individuals identifying as homosexual, bisexual, and transgender.

The Stonewall Inn, located in New York’s Greenwich Village, was raided by police on June 28, 1969. This date became a catalyst for demonstrations against a hostile system that marginalized LGBTQ individuals. Nowadays, marches and parades take place worldwide to not only remember but also assert our rights to freedom of expression.

Yucatán is no exception, and it has become customary for several municipalities, including the capital, Mérida, to organize events such as marches, parades, and concerts. However, due to ongoing renovations at the Plaza Grande, it is likely that these manifestations will change location.

Nevertheless, it has been announced that the Pride March will take place on June 15th.
