Heavy Rain Hits Mérida on Father’s Day; Streets Flooded and Trees Fallen

- June 17, 2024

Father’s Day came with an unexpected gift – a strong rainstorm that flooded streets in various parts of the city of Mérida, also causing trees to fall.

The intense rain that hit Mérida on Father’s Day prompted the intervention of police and firefighters from the Secretary of Public Security (SSP).

In the Bojórquez colony, firefighters from Unit 881 arrived to cut branches from a tree that, due to wind and rain, was posing a risk near electricity cables. Police units 4022 and 4014 from SSP were also deployed, blocking off Street 114 between 59C and 59CH.

The road became impassable due to the large amount of water.

Another incident occurred in Ciudad Caucel, where firefighters from Unit 6808 had to cut down a tree to prevent it from falling on Avenue 31. It was discovered that there were three similar reports in the area, which were attended by uniformed officers.

As a result, Sunday’s rainstorm not only caused significant flooding but also damage to trees and traffic lights, including those at the intersection of Avenue Jacinto Canek and Avenue Zamná.
