With the support of 1,943 people, 81 operational vehicles, and 340 dump trucks, preventive efforts began last Saturday in neighborhoods and districts in the southern zone of Mérida.
On Sunday, they concluded in the northern region, covering 263 neighborhoods, 230,720 households, 44 districts, and nearby areas on the outskirts of the capital. This initiative benefited 1,370,000 residents across 11,536 hectares.
As of last Sunday, the State Health Secretariat (SSY) reported the collection of nearly 350 tons of articles and debris—specifically, objects that can accumulate water and become breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
It’s essential to note that the descacharrización campaign is part of a series of preventive actions against these insects. Additionally, each week, the Vector Control Department, with the support of machinery-equipped vehicles, carries out a thermal nebulization and larval control plan in neighborhoods within the Yucatecan capital and other municipalities in the state.
