This project will have three stages. The first stage involves building a chapel dedicated to Saint John Paul II, the patron saint of young people. Subsequently, the second stage will focus on constructing the San José Sánchez del Río parish.
This Thursday, the foundation stone was laid for the construction of the Comprehensive Youth Center in Mérida, which will be open to all.
Father Mario Alberto Cervera Ancona explained that Archbishop Gustavo Rodríguez Vega of Yucatán entrusted him with creating a place where all young people—regardless of their sexual orientation, life circumstances, or challenges—can seek assistance. The center will provide recreational spaces, educational opportunities, and specialized support services to address their needs.
Furthermore, efforts will be made to reduce suicide rates among this population in the state by offering a place for listening and support.
Father Cervera emphasized that although the completion date is not confirmed yet, the project requires collaboration from all segments of society. Importantly, the center will serve not only Catholics but all young people in need of assistance.
