Work on the renovation of Mérida’s Grand Plaza is progressing, and images shared by the State Government show that construction of an interactive fountain has already begun.

As part of the improvement plan announced by the State Government for the Grand Plaza, a fountain similar to the one in La Plancha Park will be installed. The project includes placing a variable light and water jet fountain around the monumental flagpole, designed to not interfere with activities related to the national flag.

The work also aims to unify projects along the Tourist and Gastronomic Corridor on streets 47 and 60 in the same area. To facilitate movement, the surrounding roads are being adjusted to create a single level for pedestrian and vehicle areas, prioritizing pedestrian traffic while restricting vehicular flow.

A designated pedestrian zone will be created, along with a vehicle lane where cars must drive at slower speeds, and another mixed-use area. Additionally, the renovation plan includes areas for vegetation, resting spots, lighting, and urban furniture installation, totaling an investment of 137.5 million pesos.

Furthermore, the project contemplates planting 80 new trees in the Grand Plaza.
