Interpol and the Mexican Federal Prosecutor’s Office (FGR) arrested a suspected leader of a criminal cell involved in an international human trafficking ring, along with another person, who is part of a network that exploits women for sexual purposes in Yucatán.
However, at the time, when requested to provide their statement to the Yucatan State Attorney’s Office (PRODENNAY), under Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal, the department denied any omissions or failures pointed out by a civil organization about an international criminal network.
But it was late on Friday, July 5, when FGR issued a statement explaining that, through the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Crimes against Women, Groups in Vulnerable Situations and Human Trafficking (FEVIMTRA), they executed an arrest warrant at nightclubs in Mérida, Yucatán, where victims of human trafficking were being held.
How many victims of human trafficking did FGR and Interpol rescue in Yucatán?
The FGR reported that “8 Colombian national victims were recovered.”
According to a bulletin, with the participation of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) and jointly with Colombian authorities, they searched three homes and three bars in Mérida.
They also referred to the intervention of elements from the Federal Ministerial Police (PFM), the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC), with the support of the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena), which provided perimeter security during the execution of the arrest warrant.
