In the next few days, the Port of Progreso will host several events during the summer vacation period. One of these is the Second Kite Festival
The kites will be seen flying in the port on Saturday, July 20th, starting at 11:00 am, and Sunday, July 21st, at 10:00 am.
The event will take place around the “monumental letters” along Progreso’s malecón and will be completely free.
Among the activities that can be found are:
• Exhibition of monumental Papagayos
• Papyrus bending workshops
• Artisanal Papagayos making
• Lectures and recreational activities
The program also includes a handmade Papagayos contest, which includes cash prizes for the top three places, ranging from $200 to $500 pesos. People of all ages can participate; however, children are required to have adult supervision.
The call also considers that kites must be made in an artisanal manner using biodegradable materials such as paper, cardboard, reeds, wood, fabric, and glue. The form, decoration, flight time, and height will be evaluated.
If you are Interested, you must register on the Facebook page “Festival de Papagayos y Cometas Yucatán“ with your name, age, phone number, email, and city before July 19th.
The festival will also feature live music, food and beverage sales, and the presence of civil organizations.
