Psychology graduates from the University of Yucatan allegedly got intoxicated by the banquet at their graduation party.

- July 24, 2024

More than 370 people reportedly became intoxicated after attending the graduation party banquet held at the Siglo XXI Convention Center in Merida on Saturday.

Although the party took place last weekend, reports of the alleged mass intoxication only began spreading recently.

The banquet was catered by the company “Pokonos”, which provided food and drinks to the graduates along with their invited family members.

However, it wasn’t until Sunday that several attendees began to feel unwell, prompting around 370 people allegedly needing to seek medical attention at a hospital.

Social media reports indicate that those affected experienced vomiting, diarrhea, and gastrointestinal problems likely caused by salmonellosis.

As of now, neither the University of Yucatan nor the banquet company Pokonos has made any statement regarding the alleged mass intoxication at the Psychology Faculty’s graduation party.
