Miguel Cimé Ku, a renowned Yucatecan artist from Conkal, has been selected by the Mexican Cultural Promotion Fund (Fomento Cultural México) to participate in the “Windows of Mexico” exhibition in 2025, which will take place in Tokyo, Japan.
Cimé Ku is one of two Mexican artists chosen out of 24 national painters to showcase their works in this prestigious event. Born and raised in Conkal, Cimé Ku studied with Campechano muralist Sergio Cuevas Avilés from 1979 to 1981 and later attended the Yucatán School of Fine Arts from 1981 to 1985.
Throughout his career, Cimé Ku has participated in an impressive 68 exhibitions in cities such as Mérida, Cozumel, Mexico City, Campeche, Veracruz, Tabasco, Puebla, and others. He has also showcased his work individually in notable galleries like the Peón Contreras (1997) and the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Yucatán (2005).
Cimé Ku’s accolades include honorable mentions at the IV Biennial of Visual Arts of Yucatán for drawing (1991) and VII Biennial of Visual Arts in Yucatán for painting (1997). In 2001, he received recognition from the Conkal cultural group Mul yahal kab.
Additionally, Cimé Ku has been involved with various art groups and initiatives throughout his career. He was part of Art Ho in 1990, a collective coordinated by Manuel Lizama, and later founded the Taller Valor Lineal (2006), offering courses in drawing and painting to local students.
His artwork has been collected by both national and international collectors. Currently, Cimé Ku is preparing for an upcoming exhibition of his latest collection, “Niños del camino” (“Children on the Road”).
Regarding “Windows of Mexico”, this exhibition aims to showcase the richness of Mexican cultural traditions and folklore through the works of national artists.
